CELEBRATION TIME: summer slide show!

It has been a super busy and super exhausting summer for many of the committee members. Jen, Linda and Jason have worked very hard all summer to organize contractors, monies, volunteers and all sorts of other pieces of the puzzle that make up the NURTURE NATURE PLAYSCAPE PROJECT! See the actual plan HERE. If you are unfamiliar with the project and the process we have taken, please read back on this blog, it's all there! HERE are some depressing before pics!

Here is a slide show of a tiny portion of the work that has gone into this massive undertaking! And, let's keep in mind that Jen, Linda and Jason are parent volunteers. Look at how their determination and planning has made such a HUGE difference in the field. It was only decided last spring that we would not go with a traditional play structure here at King George, but instead create something more interesting, imaginative and something more connected to the natural world. Children don't need colourful pieces of plastic to have a good time or create playful worlds for their imaginations to blossom.

An ENOURMOUSLY HUGE THANK YOU to all of the parent volunteers who came out this summer in the heat, during vacation time and worked so hard so that the kids would have something to play with this school year!

If you are at all unsure about this PLAYSCAPE PROJECT, please stop by the school during lunch or recess and watch as the kids roll down the berms laughing, or sit on the rocks exchanging jokes, or build complicated tunnel systems in the new sand area! Last year the kids from grades 1 to 8 had a flat, plain, sometimes muddy field to play on. That's when the committee created the Play Bags and you can read more about those HERE.

If you are interested and keen on helping, come out and join one of our fun work parties! Or, if manual work is not your cup of tea then we are always looking for volunteers for grant writing, researching various projects and ideas, making phone calls, writing letters... the work is endless, but satisfying!

We are always looking for feedback as well. Feel free to leave a comment right here on the blog; we'd love to hear what you think of what we're doing! Or, you can email the committee directly as well.
