We Have Great Neighbours!

During the last week of school in June, we had two grade 5 classes stuff mailboxes with a 4-fold brochure about the playscape. These were mailboxes of immediate neighbours to the school. Wow, were the kids happy to be scampering along the sidewalks rather than at their desks! 

400 were handed out.

The brochure described the goals of the project and shared the site plan and asked neighbours to consider writing a cheque to help us reach our fundraising goal. The very next morning, neighbours starting dropping by the office with their chequebooks. The supportive comments were a delight to hear. Very quickly, contributions rose to $2,000. 

A conversation also began with a neighbour interested in making a significant donation. Detailed information was provided and queries answered. In the end, this neighbouring family must have loved our dream, as they gave an incredible gift to our project. More details on who and the amount will come in September. Stay tuned …

All donors were entered into a draw for a gift certificate for our best neighbourhood restaurant, the Delhi Street Bistro. Check out there website HERE. The chef/owner, Luke Philp, loved hearing about the project and generously donated two appetizers and two main courses. If you have ever eaten his inspired dishes, you know that is a real treat! The winner of the prize had three sons who went to the former KGPS and now has a grandson there. She was so pleased to donate and also to win a dinner out. 

Along with cash, neighbours have also offered space to store our watering supplies while the school building is closed and time as labourers. Priceless!
