Family Fun Night: here's what it looked like!
What a FUN time Family Fun Night was!
A BIG thanks to all who came and helped raise funds for Parent Council and the Greening and Grounds Committee. Even though the weather was touch and go, the event was huge success! It was wonderful to see so many teachers out, as it was very special to the students! Kids enjoyed free face painting, there was a cotton candy machine (thanks Nick & Loralie), a bike raffle, Scholastic bookfair and we welcomed a new member to our King George community. "GEORGE" the American Elm was donated by Brenda Walsh from Green Legacy, County of Wellington, and planted thanks to the efforts of several parent volunteers and the kids of course!
The Greening and Grounds committee was out in full force at Family Fun Night! We had a table staffed by our parent volunteers ready to answer questions and accept donations for the Playscape project. We raised almost $2880 in cash and cheque donations at Fun Night! The plan for the Playscape was presented on large foam core and was received with awe and excitement by onlookers. It is quite amazing to think of the current field turned into a natural wonder for the kids to play in!
Here is a slide show of the fun event! Pictures were taken by the talented Natalie from grade 7 and our committee's awesome chair, Jen.
"GEORGE" will need some extra TLC this summer season with regular watering and some gentle treehugs, so please remind kids to be careful around him. He is still quite vulnerable as a newly planted tree. We are hoping to find lots of volunteers to take turns caring for "GEORGE" by taking on watering days/ evenings, so please contact us if you are interested!
As we part for the summer, please keep this project in mind and keep checking back in on the blog. We will keep updating on various projects and tasks. This summer will be a time for construction and change at the school yard, and we will be looking for parent volunteers to roll up their sleeves and help in different ways. Just because the kids are outta school doesn't mean the Greening and Grounds Committee will be taking time off!
Again, a HUGE THANKS to everyone that helped organize this successful King George Family Fun Night! It was a great way to end the year and a great way to come together as a community and really set the ball rolling on our wonderful new Playscape!
