Our Nurture Nature Playscape keeps getting better!

WE DID IT!!!!

We installed the play structure and the monkey bar in the grade 1 – 8 yard
before the first day of school!

This was the result of an incredible amount of research into the best options for our yard and a lot of fundraising. Then the Greening & Grounds Committee undertook the planning, sought approvals from the
UGDSB and the City and over saw our hired contractors on site.

If you're new to the Ecole King George school community please take time to look through this blog. The process of getting where we are today has been a long one, and one filled with many obstacles and frustrations... but, it was all worth it!

On the play equipment install and the August 30th parent work party we spent a whopping $28,269.81!!!

We got 35 volunteers out to work super hard on a hot last Saturday of the summer. PHEW!

How exciting for our kids, especially those who remember the original bare yard of just turf grass. To see the sad before pictures CLICK HERE and HERE!

The workers from ABC Recreation installed the monkey bars and climbing structures on the school field. They worked hard to ensure the play equipment was properly and safely set up to encourage hours and hours of future play for kids of all ages!

Back in May we planted 34 trees to the bare school field as a way to create greenery and shade for the kids during their outdoor times. To read more about that volunteer work party CLICK HERE! Unfortunately, a few of the dogwoods didn't survive the summer, so Connon Nurseries generously replaced the dead trees with single trunk eastern redbuds, a native species to our area.

Planting just one tree, as you can see below, takes a team!

The Greening & Grounds Committee is also responsible for weeding and some of the general maintenance of the green spaces on the school property. Look at the beautiful hostas and colourful fall Mum's planted next to the main entrance to the school building!

Here are some of the wonderful parents and kids who helped out to get the much anticipated structures in! It was hot summers day, but they trudged through it with big smiles on their faces and sweat dripping down their backs!

LOOK AT THE END RESULT!
FANTASTIC!

THE KIDS APPROVE!!!

They say it takes a village to raise a child, and our little King George community sure has taken that idea to heart! The parental involvement to improve and vitalize the school grounds has been out of this world! As parents, teachers and members of this particular village we are demonstrating to our children what some tenacity, team work, laughter and love can do. This project will not only enhance the students at our school, but also the neighbourhood and community at large!

Boy, aren't we lucky to a part of this village!
